Web27 feb. 2024 · Just getting started thinking about a conversion cylinder for a Ruger Old Army. I have found there to be three (3) main manufacturers of these: Kirst, Howell and Taylor. The first and main concern is that the Firearm is NOT modified in any shape or manner. It MUST remain "original". It is used, but not abused and wish it to be un-molested. The 8" has a Howell 45 colt conversion cylinder while the 5.5" one has a Kirst gated 45 colt conversion cylinder. The 5.5 with the Howell is accurate, hoping it will be just as accurate with the Kirst cylinder.

I have had about 6 Pietta 1858's and all the barrels have been .451 The Howell cylinders for mine are .452 Best groupings have been with 200gr. and 250gr. lees sized .452 with HP-38 and Win. 231 powder No idea of volocity, no Chrono right now, but with the 200gr. it makes one hole … Web22 mei 2011 · I believe Taylor was the distributor who informed me that "Howell" now offers the 5-shot cylinder due to issues with the 6-shot version. Knowing this, I'm a little hesitant. Even if they are able to help me fit it and get the timing right, there's still the issue with the integrity of the cylinder being compromised due to the 6-shot capacity.

It is also unlikely that the conversion cylinder is defective as they are made on CNC machinery = if there is a problem with the ratchet it probably effects the entire batch and R&D will be recalling them.
